Papillon Photos: Manuel Antonio National Park

Manuel Antonio National Park is one of Costa Rica’s most famous parks.  In terms of size, it is the smallest national park.  However, don’t get fooled because of this fact.  The park is full of wildlife, beautiful beaches and hiking trails.

If you are visiting Costa Rica, do not miss the opportunity to visit this gem.  It is easy to get to the park from San Jose (Costa Rica’s capital).  You can arrange transportation with a private company for a reasonable price.  If you want to consider a cheaper option, there are public buses that make the route several times during the day.  You should buy your tickets at the bus station at least two days before the trip.  You should make advanced arrangements because the bus has numbered seats.  You can choose to make Quepos (the getaway town) or the entrance of the park your final destination.  If you decide to stop at Quepos, there is public transportation to the park.  The bus only makes a short stop to use the restrooms and/or grab a snack.  I took this option and I have to say that is a safe and cheap way to get to the park.  The trip takes about 4 hours.

You can stay at Quepos or in one of the hotels in the road between Quepos and the park.  There is a full range of accommodation options.

There are a lot of hiking options once you get inside the park.  One of the hikes takes you to “El Mirador” (a viewing point) where you can observe the beauty of the water surrounding the park from a high point.  The park trails are properly marked.

And of course, you are guaranteed to see some wildlife.  We saw a lot of animals. Monkeys, raccoons, sloths, iguanas and more.  Make sure you bring binoculars to see species that dwell in trees.  It is also recommended to take a camera with good zooming properties.

Black Sand Beaches of St Vincent

We docked up at St Vincent, the largest island in the Grenadines. I visited the Grenadines for my 10th birthday but missed out St Vincent so this was my first time visiting this island.
