Hua Shan is a historic, as well as a religious place. For thousands of years people have been growing rice, tea and oranges here. Also for hundreds of years Taoists have been climbing the mountain. Due to these pilgrimages many temples are located in the area. Today Buddhists also climb the steep paths and leave red ribbons with wishes behind.

The extremely narrow tracks run along the steep rocks and attract many adventurers from all around the world. The safety belts, ropes and cables were installed only in 2005. Despite the climbing equipment the paths have not become safer at all. If you think about going there, you will have to guide yourself carefully. The best time of the year to visit Hua Shan is fall, since spring and summer are humid and rainy.
