Cambria and its Exquisite Coast

Image
Cambria, California was the next stop on our American Road Trip. We opted to stay in the adequately named ‘fog catcher inn’. which, with its rustic charm and amazing sea views instantly made us feel welcome. When I woke in the morning, after a very comfortable nights sleep, the relevance of the Inn’s name became clear. The morning’s fog was rolling off the sea, creating a ghostly but dazzling view. Cambria’s equally as adequately named ‘moonstone beach’ was steps away from the inn. Its rocky and almost rugged outcrop seemed alien following the expanse of golden sand beaches in Los Angeles. Large amounts of drift wood, dotted along the beach only added to its the wanderlust and sense of being untouched. Again, a sharp cry from the densely packed beaches of commonly thought of California. In addition, the rustic wooden broad walk along the edge of the beach is perfect for a stroll – or run if you’re more energetic than I. The path opens up at different points, offering viewing pla

What to do in Riga for One Day

Image
If you’re lucky enough to visit the Baltics, a visit to the capital of Latvia, Riga, is an inevitable stop on your travels and indeed an unsung highlight of Eastern Europe! Despite having visited the Eastern states before, this was my first visit to a Baltic state and I had just one day to explore the capital of Latvia. In Riga for One Day If you find yourself in Riga for one day only, you can rest assured this is the perfect city to relax and unwind for a day. There’s plenty to keep you busy for a day, but not too much that you’re rushing around trying to squeeze everything in. Riga is, in fact, the perfect one-dayer. The Main Square The cities’ main attraction for visitors is the Old Town Square. You’ll find yourself winding through cobblestone roads of various widths and lengths to get there, but it isn’t too difficult to find if you just ask a passing local or take a guess. Riga is not that big, so it is difficult to get properly lost! Three Brothers Another great stop in

Floating Movie Theater in Thailand

Image

The little architectural wonder was specially made for “Film on the Rocks Yao Noi“ festival. The movie theater float beside the island of Kudu Noi. More famous resort Phuket is not far away. 14 Ancient Theatres of Greek Roman Antiquity

Scattered around the Mediterranean lie the remains of the ancient theaters of the Greek and Roman world. The Greek theaters were large, open-air structures constructed on the slope of a hill. Roman theaters, although heavily influenced by the Greeks, have specific differences, such as being built upon their own foundations.

10 Most Beautiful Bays in the World

A bay is loosely defined as a body of water partly enclosed by land. Generally they have calmer waters than the surrounding sea and are a good place for ships to shelter from the weather. When large and deep enough, bays become natural harbors which are often of great economic and strategic importance. Many of the great cities of the world are located on a natural harbor. This top 10 features some of the most beautiful bays and famous stretches of coastline in the world.

10 Famous Roman Amphitheaters

When one thinks of Roman entertainment, savage fights between prisoners and animals (like in Gladiator) and chariot races (like in Ben-Hur) come to mind. Chariot races were usually held in the circus, the gladiator fights were the domain of the amphitheaters. The combats between criminals, prisoners or war, slaves and animals are a testament of the character and life of the Romans who considered these combats good training for a nation of warriors. Occasionally, free citizens would even enter the fight to enjoy their 15 minutes of fame.

Heiligenberg (Holy Mountain) // Heidelberg

Last week, I decided to be adventurous and climb to the top of Heiligenberg in Heidelberg. Honestly, it is probably a large hill but because the Germans call it a mountain, I’m going to call it a mountain (berg = mountain in German).

The Slow Boat into Laos

Image
Waking early enough for a quick breakfast before doing one final pack of our bags, we make sure everything is in order and make our way down the dusty path toward the dock. The literal border ‘crossing’ is done in a small canoe powered by an outboard motor, just strong enough to fight the currents of the Mekong River. Once on the other side, the usual formalities take place regarding stamps and visa payments, only this time something strikes us as a little strange. Posted in plain sight is a list of roughly 60 different countries and the associated price for a visa into Laos; there are two countries tied for most expensive – at $42US – Canada and Afghanistan. Curious. The Longboats of the Mekong A short while later we make our way to the longboat to begin our two day trip downriver to Luang Prabang. While waiting to depart, several children – can’t be more than 10 years old – pop up along the side of the boat selling big bags of weed. Dom, a German on our boat casually picks up a h

From Travel to Photo – Chapter 3 – How to fix budget for Europe tour

Image
From previous chapters, we learned when is the best time to visit Europe and for how long we should travel Europe. In this chapter, we will discuss on ways to fix a preliminary budget of Europe travel. As we all aware of, traveling to and around Europe is a dream to many travelers mainly because of the much higher cost involved if compared to most other countries. The high cost of vacation travel are due to the high living standards in Europe as well as the still remained strong Euro, Swiss Franc or Pound Sterling currencies that are well perceived in Europe. Tips for Going to The Galapagos Islands

Image
by Alyssa Ramos Flying over the beginning flecks of islands amongst the clear blue ocean, darkened and lightened with depth, I was reminded of images I’ve seen in my undergrad ecology class textbooks. Darwin’s famed Galapagos Islands , whose contribution to evolutionary advances seemed almost mythical when studied in college, was now about to be a real experience. Jump To: Getting to the Galapagos Islands Getting to Puerto Ayora Things to do in Puerto Ayora Cliff Diving at Las Grietas San Cristobal The Charles Darwin Research Station Seeing the Sea Lions Lover’s Canal and Dog Beach Where to Eat Getting to the Galapagos Islands It was only a short flight from Quito , and I felt the culture embrace me as soon as we stepped off the tiny, rickety plane in Santa Cruz , and onto the brutally windy landing strip where we were ushered inside the open-aired airport to be admitted. A separate immigration form from the one I filled out in Ecuador was required, along with an overall en
